My painting seeks an intersection between perception, abstraction, and fragmentation using the phenomenon of light, space, and form as personal metaphor while responding to the challenges and questions of what painting is. I use visual fragmentation as a way to re-order the observable world, to undo the veil of perception and recreate it. I want to get beyond the surface of what is seen and towards a sense of the visual as it is unfolding into forms and space that are at once material and immaterial. I’m motivated by a visual sensation that the forms have just come together and may shift and disappear again- a brief presence that threatens to fall apart.
